Who May Order

Tests are instruments, which must be used with professional care. Therefore, their sale is restricted. Some of the principles of test sales are as follows:

  1. Teachers, counselors, and staff of schools may order test materials or services with a purchase order when signed by an administrative official.
  2. Graduate students may order test materials for study or research. Research and permissions requests should be made online by visiting the Permissions Request.
  3. Individuals must fill out STS’ User Qualification Form to demonstrate appropriate background for responsible test use.
When to Order

While STS does not impose “testing window” practices, we recommend that orders be placed at least four weeks in advance of testing. Expedited orders can incur extra shipping charges.

What to Order

Most STS test booklets and answer sheets are sold in packages. The minimum order for these booklets and answer sheets is one package.

Completing the Order Form
  1. For those placing an order by fax, email or mail, download and complete the appropriate order form.

  2. Complete the “Ship To” and “Bill To” section on the order form. Please note: United Parcel Service (UPS) cannot ship to a P.O. Box. Please use your complete address.

  3. If the purchase is to be charged on Visa®, Mastercard®, or American Express®, completely fill in the appropriate area under “Bill To.” Please include the name, address and phone number of the cardholder.

  4. Fill in the testing and arrival dates in the “TESTING INFORMATION” section.

  5. Carefully identify the materials you are ordering. Specify the exact title, grade level, form, and quantity.

  6. Carefully indicate the scoring method to be used.

  1. Purchase orders are filled immediately and invoiced at current catalog prices, f.o.b., Bensenville, Illinois, plus transportation, insurance, and sales taxes where applicable. Scoring and data processing services are invoiced upon completion according to current catalog prices, f.o.b., Earth City, Missouri, regardless of date of order. A minimum handling charge of $3.50 per carton will be added to each order. Extraordinary manual handling of answer sheets would necessitate additional charges.

  2. All U. S. orders placed without an authorized purchase order must include payment. A minimum handling charge of $3.50 per carton will be added to each order.

  4. To obtain shipping and handling costs for shipments outside of the United States, territories and possessions, please call 1.630.766.7150. For orders that include an authorized purchase order, the terms are as follows: net 30 days, no cash discounts. After 30 days, an interest charge will be added to the unpaid balance.

  5. All prices and terms are subject to change without notice. To be absolutely certain of prices before shipment, test users may write for a quotation. No “professional” or “educational” discounts are allowed. All bills must be paid in U.S. currency.

  6. If prices on your order are incorrect, we reserve the right to exceed the amount up to 10% unless otherwise stated on your order.

  7. Except for lease/score programs, invoicing is per package or unit prices as shown in the individual listing. For lease/score programs, invoicing is per student tested, based on the number of documents returned for scoring. (Arrangements may be made to purchase leased test booklets after testing, subject to prior approval in writing from STS in Bensenville.) Please note that the Closed HSPT may never be purchased by a school.

  8. The STS Minimum Scoring Service charge is $25.00 plus shipping and handling.

  1. For STS lease/score programs (school rental of booklets, manuals and answer sheets along with purchase of standard scoring), be sure to order sufficient materials. One manual is usually provided for every 35 booklets. All lease/score materials must be returned within 30 days following testing.

  2. If answer sheets will be hand scored, a school scoring kit must be ordered separately. The kit includes materials to hand score the test and to record and interpret the results.

  3. If test results are to be used for scholarship purposes, advise STS. Special security procedures will then be followed, which may slightly delay the return of the results.

  4. If you have scheduled a date for make-up testing, indicate this date on the order form. Make-up tests may be scored separately (subject to a $25.00 minimum charge plus shipping and handling), or original tests may be held for scoring until make-ups arrive. .

Materials ordered and scored testing items are shipped to customers using the following methods. Costs and delivery times are based on location. All shipping costs will include a $3.50 handling fee. Contact STS for special requests or shipping methods not mentioned below.

Title of all materials passes from STS to the carrier upon pickup of shipment. As an option, STS can arrange insurance for the shipment and add the cost to the invoice.

  1. United Parcel Service (UPS): STS will ship using UPS ground for all domestic orders of testing materials and for returning score reports to customers. UPS will only accept shipments to a valid street address and will not deliver to P.O. Boxes. Expedited shipping is available for an additional cost upon request.

  2. DHL International: Orders shipping outside the U.S. are sent via DHL. Contact STS for estimated shipping costs.

  3. United States Postal Service (USPS): Orders for materials being sent to Alaska, Hawaii, or Canada can be shipped using USPT Priority Mail to reduce expenses. Call STS for estimated costs.

Many STS products are available for review by requesting a Preview Set. Previewing some STS materials is not possible. Thus detailed brochures have been prepared on these products. If you have questions after receiving a brochure, please contact a customer service representative.

The purchaser agrees to the basic principles of test security.

  1. The test taker is not to be told the questions before beginning the test.

  2. Test questions and/or manuals are not to be reproduced in any way.

  3. Test access is limited to persons with responsible professional interest.

  4. Test scores and materials are to be released only to persons who are qualified to interpret and use them properly.

  5. A parent or person who took the test may be allowed to read the test and the involved party’s answers in the presence of a representative of the test giver.

  6. Test questions may not be copied.

Scholastic Testing Service, Inc. warrants the tests and materials in the catalog will be of usable quality and are suitable for the purpose and use described in the catalog in accordance with the standards of the Joint Committee on Testing Practices, which includes members of the American Educational Research Association, the American Psychological Association, and the National Council on Measurement in Education.

Scholastic Testing Service, Inc. makes no other warranties, expressed or implied, as to merchantability or fitness for particular purposes. Return of and replacement of materials or refund of all or a portion of the purchase price, at the sole option of STS, constitutes the sole and exclusive remedy of the purchaser, and is in lieu of all other remedies and damages—actual, consequential, special, incidental or other—in connection with tests and materials, their use or misuse, and scoring or any other services in connection with such tests and materials.

Under no circumstances can STS be held liable for expenses in connection with administering tests, delays, costs for substitute materials, lost income or profits of any kind, or any other special or consequential damages.

  1. Check the shipment of materials as soon as it arrives. Returns are subject to a 15% restocking charge plus shipping fees if shipping is at STS expense.

  2. No materials may be returned more than 90 days after invoicing. No open packages may be returned.

  3. All claims of manufacturing defects are deemed waived unless made in writing to STS within 30 days of receipt of test materials by the purchaser. Claims for manufacturing defects will not be entertained after materials have been used, unless, in STS’s sole opinion, the defect could not be detected before use.

  4. Completed/scored answer sheets can be returned to the customer upon request, at a cost of $35.00 per group, plus shipping and handling.
